Adoption Gone Wrong
My heart felt a great pain while reading this story. I attempted to grasp an understanding on why a person would rescue a child by adoption and then torture and starve them to death. With intense adoption laws and allegedly thorough screening processes that a person goes through to adopt a child that, like all children, want to be safe, loved and taken care of. I still am a firm believer that there is a positive lesson in any given situation. Happy Columbus Day... Or is it Really?
I think many of us celebrate holidays such as Columbus Day out of traditions we were taught while growing up and off course for the creative merchandise sales we love so much but should this still be a continued holiday practiced today? Should this day be celebrated since we are fully aware of the history of the holiday and what transpired when Columbus reached a land that was already inhibited by people? Should we celebrate the inhumane treatment, murder, theft and other unthinkable acts that were done to the indigenous people that lived in America prior to Columbus’s invasion. The concept of the Columbus discovering a land that was already occupied always bothered me even when a child.
