Who Said Kids will Hate Eating Treats

My children and I had a fun last weekend creating our own fruit popsicles.  Everything was pretty much impromptu. We did not measure or have any idea what we were doing :)

We were going to make strawberry and banana popsicles but we decided why not lets put more fruit in the mix.  So we added along with strawberries and bananas, blueberries, green apples, red apples watermelon and mango.  We put the fruit in a blender along with a small amount of Agave(a natural sweetener) coconut milk, and a little vanilla rice milk.  We blended the fruit mixture for only a few seconds since we wanted to have the popsicles have chunks of fruit like the ones we bought from the store.

For the life of me we could not find popsicle sticks or molds that we could use for our fruit creation. We went to store after store and I was told it was out of season.. Really even the craft stores.. Well we decided to use toothpicks and ice trays.  We placed the tray in the freezer (without the toothpicks since obviously it was still in a liquid form).

after approximately 4 hours, we were able to put the toothpicks into the fruit mixture. A few hours later we had fruit popsicles.  I can honestly say the fruit popsicles tasted better than what we used to buy at the store. I honestly forgot to take a picture of the popsicles but we made some today again :)

Organic green bananas, mint leaves, watermelon, blueberries, papaya, coconut milk, vanilla rice milk, canteloupe, and spinach leaves(this time we did not use Agave sweetener).

We had some left over so we did not want it to go to waste-we made it as a fruit drink!

It is so important as a family to develop and maintain good healthy eating habits. Particularly for the children.  It will not be as hard for them to continue healthy habits than it is for us adults to have to break unhealthy eating habit and make a change.

Having fun cooking with our children helps not only teach them good eating habits but it also teaches them how to work together as a family unit. Now in my opinion, this is quality time I enjoy spending.
